New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur announced on Wednesday that quarterback Eli Manning is “very likely” to start on Monday Night Football in Week 14 following Daniel Jones ankle injury in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers.
Speaking to reporters, Shurmur revealed that Jones is in a walking boot with a mild high-ankle sprain and is expected to miss Monday’s game. As a result, Manning will return under center and start against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants benched Manning following the team’s 28-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. During his two games as the starter, the 38-year-old quarterback threw two interceptions with two touchdowns and combined for 556 passing yards on 89 attempts.
Jones, the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, has experienced his share of highlights and blunders in his rookie season. He suffered the ankle injury in his three-interception performance on Sunday and entered Week 14 with 11 interceptions and 15 fumbles.
If the rookie misses multiple weeks, Manning would get the opportunity to start at MetLife Stadium once more with a matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Week 15.
