Daniel Bryan, aka the American Dragon, aka, Bryan Lloyd Danielson, announced his retirement from the WWE on Twitter Monday, citing health reasons.

Interestingly enough, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com (h/t wrestlezone.comrevealed on the Wrestling Classics forum that Bryan “did give notice [to WWE] and was told he did not have the right to give notice.”

Trained by Shawn Michaels, the wrestler toured in Japan in the early 2000s before his career took off in America.

He spent two stints in the WWE, becoming the World Heavyweight Champion in 2011. Unfortunately, he’s been battling health issues since 2014 and has been out of commission since Feb. of 2016.

Tune in tonight on Raw to find out more about Bryan’s decision.
