D’Angelo Russell to meet with the Timberwolves, per report

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Once free agency opens on Sunday evening, All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell will have a ton of potential suitors.

That now includes a Minnesota Timberwolves squad that had in the past tried to work out a sign-and-trade for the restricted free agent.

Russell will now meet with the Wolves, according to this report.

While Russell would be an interesting fit with Karl-Anthony Towns and rookie Jarrett Culver, the Wolves are all capped out.

Even if Minnesota were to renounce all 10 of its free agents, the team would still be over the cap.

This is complicated further by the fact that Brooklyn extended a qualifying offer to Russell on Friday, meaning that he’s a restricted free agent.

The Wolves’ best hope is to either work out a sign-and-trade for Russell. That wouldn’t come without trading Andrew Wiggins.
