Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly working toward an agreement on a four-year, $196 million supermax contract extension, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

This deal has reportedly been in the works for a while and is in no way a surprise.

Lillard, 28, is a franchise fixture for Portland, and he is one of the best point guards in the Association these days.

This past season, he averaged 25.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game during the regular season. Then in the playoffs, he upped his game a bit, averaging 26.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in 16 postseason appearances.

Portland ultimately fell to the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs in four straight games, but afterward general manager Neil Olshey landed a contract extension and the team made it clear it was going to keep its core together.

If the Blazers are going to overtake the Warriors in the west, they have some more moves to make. But securing Lillard for the long haul is certainly one of them.
