Emotional scene unfolds as NFL pays tribute to Damar Hamlin, medical professionals

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin and the medical professionals tasked with saving his life after that scary scene in Cincinnati on Jan. 2 were on hand during the NFL Honors program Thursday evening in Arizona.

As you likely already know, Hamlin suffered from sudden cardiac arrest in the first quarter of Buffalo’s Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals just over a month ago.

The former Rutgers star fell to the turf after laying a hit on Bengals wide reciver Tee Higgins. Doctors and trainers had to administer CPR and used a defibrillator on the field to resuscitate Hamlin after his heart stopped beating.

Following a miraculous receovery, Damar Hamlin was on hand during the awards show on Thursday. He was joined with medical professionals from the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and University of Cincinnati Medical Center. It was a sight to behold.

As for the tribute to Damar Hamlin and the aforementioned professionals tasked with saving his life, the NFL couldn’t have done better.

Amazingly enough, NFLPA medical director Dr. Thom Mayer just recently noted that he believes Damar Hamlin will ultimately play again.

This isn’t something any of us could have envisioned when we were watching Hamlin on the turf in Cincinnati just over a month ago. At that point, it was all about him actually being able to survive.

Whether Hamlin takes to the field again, what we saw unfold in Arizona ahead of Super Bowl LVII was among the most emotional scenes in the recent history of the NFL.
