Dalvin Cook has several free agency offers, ‘significant’ contract expected

Former Minnesota Vikings star Dalvin Cook has become the most recent victim of the ongoing hesitancy to pay NFL running backs. Despite topping 1,000 yards each of the past four seasons, while being named to the Pro Bowl each year, the 27-year-old was deemed too expensive by the Vikings.

Cook, who had been set to make $10.4 million in salary while accounting for a $14.1 million cap hit in Minnesota, has yet to find a new home despite being on the open market since June 9.

But it’s reportedly not due to a lack of interest in the Florida native from other NFL teams. Cook is getting offers. He’s just taking his time to decide.

According to Tom Pelissero, Cook has “multiple offers” on the table, with roughly six teams registering interest in the versatile tailback. Of those teams, Pelissero specifically outlined the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and New York Jets as potential landing spots.

While the destination is unknown, Pelissero expects Cook to sign a “significant” contract with his new team.

Said to be seeking a three-down role with a contender, Cook is one of many unsigned running backs still hoping for a contract solution ahead of training camp. Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette are unsigned free agents. Plus, franchise-tagged players like Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley have yet to sign on the dotted line.

In other words, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw the market take shape soon with training camps just around the corner.
