It’s been 17 years since Mike Zimmer was a part of the Dallas Cowboys organization, but according to several sources, including Adam Schefter, he could be set for a return in 2024.

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, the Cowboys reached out to Zimmer this past week, where they set up an interview for the current defensive coordinator vacancy in Dallas.

If hired, Zimmer would be taking over a very talented defense featuring one of the NFL’s best pass-rushers in Micah Parsons, in addition to a ball-hawking secondary featuring Trevon Diggs and Daron Bland. Not to mention, with Mike McCarthy seemingly on the hot seat every season, there’s always the chance of Zimmer returning to a head coaching role, even if it’s for just a few weeks until the Cowboys find a more permanent solution in the following offseason.

Either way, the Cowboys could do a lot worse than hiring a coach with 22 years of NFL experience working with defenses, which includes eight years as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Plus, Zimmer loves the Cowboys, if he were to get the job, he’d put every bit of his energy into making sure those players are as prepared as can possibly be on gameday.
