What a difference one season makes. A year ago, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys were coming off a 13-win campaign and were being picked by some to continue ascending as an elite team in the NFC.

Obviously that didn’t happen. Prescott struggled in his second campaign, and the Cowboys missed the playoffs altogether. Now the ‘Boys enter the 2018 season with national pundits opening questioning whether this team can really contend. Especially in the light of Dez Bryant and Jason Witten no longer being part of the equation.

Speaking to reporters over the weekend, Prescott made it clear that the team’s many critics are doing nothing to chip away at anyone’s resolve within the organization. Quite the opposite, in fact.

“…when you hear talk we don’t have this player, we don’t have that player. We don’t have a lot of well known guys. But that only makes the guys we have hungrier,” Prescott said, per Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram.

Prescott also said he likes where the team is headed.

“I like the way we finished OTAs and minicamp,” He said. “I like our attitude as a team, our hunger, the youthfulness, the energy. You can see guys excited to get back. And what’s good, the last day of an OTA or minicamp, guys weren’t sprinting out the door. That was exciting to see. And knowing that guys want to get back together in this off time to not only just hang out but to work and get better at ball. That is exactly what we need in a young team.”

The ‘Boys certainly are young. Whether head coach Jason Garrett and Co. can mold this young team into a winner remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: The team’s young leader is saying and doing all the right things.

Now it’s up to Prescott to do all the right things on the field this coming season. If he does, then the Cowboys will be in great shape to make it back to the playoffs.
