D.K. Metcalf issues challenge to critics saying he’s too bulky

Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

D.K. Metcalf is a big guy who plays a skill position that requires just as much in the way of lateral quickness and athleticism than pure speed.

He’s got the speed thing figured out — posting a ridiculous 40 time at the combine that vaulted his stock.

However, the other stuff is very much up for debate, as we detailed here. He’s not very quick to move his feet laterally, which many feel might have to do with his bulk (check out this picture).

Responding to that, Metcalf issued a challenge to anyone who thinks he’s too yoked.

To be fair, many of the critics who feel he might struggle at the NFL level aren’t professional athletes or even remotely close to it.

Yet Metcalf does have somewhat of a point. He was darn-near unguardable at Ole Miss when healthy, pulling off plays that had our jaws on the floor.

There’s a good chance he will be selected early in the draft. With that comes big expectations. He’ll certainly be a player we have our eyes on the next few years in the NFL.
