D.J. Swearinger blasts Jay Gruden, who released him for blasting coach

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football

Apparently, Jay Gruden was not a big fan of the way D.J. Swearinger ripped into Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky following Saturday night’s loss to the Tennessee Titans.

On Monday, Swearinger announced on the Grant & Danny radio show that Gruden called him into his office and released him earlier on Monday morning.

After Washington lost to Tennessee on Saturday, Swearinger went in on Manusky’s coaching scheme, saying, “I probably watch more film than the coaches.”

Previously, Gruden had said he would discipline Swearinger for his disparaging comments. Clearly he changed his mind after come more time had passed.

Now that he’s no longer with the club, Swearinger isn’t holding back.

Whew.

Swearinger has been a key player in Washington’s secondary. He finishes the season with 53 tackles, three forced fumbles and four interceptions.
