Cubs’ Javier Baez makes history with All-Star nod

Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez made history after being announced as a starter for the National League All-Star Team on Thursday.

Baez started at second base last season before being moved to shortstop in 2019. He’s now the first player in MLB history to start at both middle infield positions in consecutive All-Star games.

Baez is also just the third player to start at the two positions throughout their careers, joining Bobby Grich and Granny Hamner.

This just goes to show us how important Baez has been to the Cubs’ success. He entered Thursday’s action hitting .287 with 19 homers, 52 RBI and a .874 OPS.

Last season saw Baez start just 52 games at short. He’s already eclipsed that number with 74 starts in 2019.
