This is bad news for Gathers, who entered the weekend on the roster bubble in Dallas. A player with plenty of potential, Gathers had recently garnered the praise of owner Jerry Jones, who indicated the Cowboys had a good shot to make their active roster.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said on @1053thefan that the team will cut about 20 players today and the rest tomorrow. When specifically asked about Rico Gathers, Jones said the former Baylor basketball star has “got a good shot” of making the roster

A former basketball star at Baylor, Gathers was a sixth-round pick in 2016. He spent his rookie season on Dallas’ practice squad, and then last year an injury kept him out of action the entire season.
