The Dallas Cowboys are expected to be without star cornerback Byron Jones throughout their off-season program.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Jones underwent hip surgery on Wednesday and is expected to be ready for training camp.

“The issue cropped up late last season and the hope was time off would alleviate the issue,” Archer reported. With Jones still experiencing soreness, the move was made to have surgery now so it would not impact the regular season.”

Normally surgery at this point in the offseason wouldn’t be a big thing. But when we’re talking about a cornerback and the hip, that can be thrown out the window. It’s all about fluidity in that region of the body in coverage. Further issues here could be a big problem.

Jones, 26, is coming off a breakout 2018 campaign that saw him record 67 tackles and 14 passes defended en route to earning a Pro Bowl appearance.

The former first-round pick is in line for what could be a massive extension. It’s not yet known how this injury might impact negotiations.
