A lot has been made in recent weeks about contract talks between Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.
Prescott, 26, is coming off a career-best performance that saw the four-year veteran throw for 4,902 yards with 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The impending free agent presumably wants to reset the quarterback market.
According to former Cowboys star and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, that should not be the case. Smith suggests that Prescott should take an America’s Team discount.
That’s an absolutely ridiculous stance for Smith to take. Talk about toeing the company line.
The current NFL is nowhere near close to when Smith was suiting up in Big D, especially when it comes to the finances.
We’ve already seen lesser quarterbacks in that of Jared Goff and Carson Wentz ink extensions that made them vastly overpaid. Why would Prescott take a discount? It makes no real sense.
As it is, the quarterback is openly frustrated with contract talks and could potentially have the franchise tag placed on him if a long-term deal is not finalized over the next few weeks.
