Cowboys CEO compares Dak Prescott more to Troy Aikman than Tony Romo

The Dallas Cowboys seemingly have their franchise quarterback under center. Dak Prescott might have struggled to an extent as a sophomore last season. Given that Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for six games, this isn’t too much of a surprise.

It also doesn’t necessarily make the Cowboys think any less of a quarterback in Prescott who was out here breaking records as a rookie back in 2016.

In talking about his quarterback, Cowboys VP and CEO Stephen Jones drew a pretty outrageous comparison to the young signal caller.

“He’s (Prescott) the key. At the end of the day, it all starts with him,” Jones told Ed Warder on The Doomsday Podcast. “I think we can do some things to help him more. Dak’s a guy that’s a little different than Tony (Romo). Probably more like Troy (Aikman) in terms of the passing game. He wants precise routes. He wants to throw the ball on time…to areas.”

One could easily conclude that Jones is talking more about quarterback types than actual level of quarterback play. Then again, to draw that comparison to a signal caller that won three Super Bowl titles during his tenure in Dallas is pretty eye-opening.

The Cowboys need Prescott to progress this coming season if they have any real hope of competing with Philadelphia in the NFC East. Having Elliott for all 16 games will help. Adding former 1,000-yard receiver Allen Hurns to the mix will also play a role. But at the end of the day, it’s all about how Prescott himself performs under center. By drawing a comparison to one of the greatest players in franchise history, Jones is definitely putting the pressure on Prescott here.
