The Raiders finished up their home schedule in Oakland this past Sunday. It’s a game that culminated in an ugly scene as Jon Gruden and Co. prepare to relocate to Las Vegas.
We’re now not too sure if quarterback Derek Carr will follow the team to the desert metropolis.
According to former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi, there’s a widespread disconnect between Carr and his head coach.
“There is a significant disconnect between the coach and the quarterback. Gruden and Carr will play nice; they will say all the positives about one another,” Lombardi reported, via The Athletic.
There has been reported issues between Gruden and Carr since the head coach returned to Oakland last season.
While Carr has been a far superior statistical quarterback compared to his first season under Gruden, there remains some major issues on the veteran’s part. Mental lapses being one of them.
As old school as they get from a coaching philosophy, Gruden is not going to put up with these lapses.
There’s also some belief around the NFL that the Raiders might want to start anew at quarterback once they relocate to Vegas. That could include trading a player in Carr who would still have a nice amount of value on the market.
Carr, 28, is currently playing under a reasonable five-year, $125 million contract that spans through the 2022 campaign.
The Pro Bowler heads into Week 16 having completed 70% of his passes for 3,372 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the season.
