Corey Ballentine was an innocent bystander during a shooting at a party the night after being drafted in the sixth round by the New York Giants. Now he’s joining his new teammates.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network shared this positive news on Up To The Minute Live Monday (h/t NFL.com).

Ballentine had wanted to attend the Giants’ rookie minicamp. However, he was encouraged by the team to take time to heal and “mourn the loss and celebrate the life of his good friend and teammate Dwane Simmons,” who was tragically killed in the same shooting.

The rookie out of Washburn University took a bullet to the glute but is expected to make a full recovery following his harrowing ordeal.
