Conflicting reports emerge of Aaron Rodgers landing with New York Giants in NFL free agency

After moving on from Daniel Jones last offseason, the New York Giants have no choice but to look for a new starting quarterback for 2025. Tommy DeVito is returning, but his role will be as a backup. Could Aaron Rodgers be the Giants’ starting QB in 2025?

There may not be many other candidates left after some of the Giants’ other options have already been eliminated from the competition. Matthew Stafford got a contract adjustment in Los Angeles, Geno Smith got traded to Las Vegas, and Sam Darnold appears set to replace Smith in Seattle.

So, where does that leave the Giants? Possibly chasing after a future Hall of Famer in Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers wants to return for a 21st season in the NFL. It won’t come with the New York Jets, but he could have interest in keeping his same home, playing in the same MetLife Stadium, only now with the New York Giants instead.

On Sunday, ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported the latest on the Giants’ rumors involving Rodgers.

“Aaron Rodgers is on the Giants’ radar. I’m told they are going to go into Monday’s tampering period with several quarterbacks in mind. They are scouring the earth for quarterback help. You got Sam Darnold, Justin Fields, they’re open to a lot of options but it does feel like this could be gaining a little bit of momentum around the league that Rodgers could be open to staying in New Jersey. “

However, later in Sunday’s NFL rumor mill, Fowler’s fellow ESPN colleague and Giants insider Jordan Raanan sang a different tune.

“After speaking to people around the league, the Aaron Rodgers thing hardly seems like a slam dunk at this point. The Giants are not the most desirable situation.”

If Rodgers wants to be a starting quarterback in 2025, he’s running out of options. Aside from the Jets (who won’t be bringing Rodgers back), there are only six to seven teams looking for a new starter. They include:

  • Cleveland Browns
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Indianapolis Colts (QB competition with Anthony Richardson)
  • Tennessee Titans
  • New York Giants
  • Minnesota Vikings (J.J. McCarthy is QB of the future, but what about the start of 2025)
  • Seattle Seahawks

Rodgers will want to land with one of those teams, and some are less desirable situations than others. While the Colts and Vikings already feel like they have their quarterback of the future on the roster, odds are two others will be adding their own future franchise QB in Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.
