The Indianapolis Colts are set to honor Peyton Manning with a statue this upcoming season, and they’re going to retire his jersey as well.

As reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, they’ll do it on October 7, a Sunday in which they’re hosting the San Francisco 49ers.

Manning becomes the first player who has had his jersey retired since the Colts moved from Baltimore to Indianapolis, signifying the immense importance of this upcoming ceremony.

Manning helped the Colts win a Super Bowl (XLI), took them to the playoffs 11 times during his 13-year tenure with the club, nine years in a row between 2002-10 and led the team to at least 12 wins seven years in a row during that stretch — an NFL record.

During his 13-year career with the Colts, Manning amassed 54,828 yards, 399 touchdowns and 141 regular-season wins.

He’s a sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer and deserves every honor available to him in the NFL world. The Colts obviously realize this, and it should be quite the ceremony in October when Manning is honored by the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 1998.
