Colts’ Jacoby Brissett has MCL strain, could play next week

Jacoby Brissett

Fresh off a frustrating loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts received some really good news.

Starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett exited the game with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. He did no return to action with veteran Brian Hoyer taking over under center.

What could have been a catastrophic injury for the surprising team appears to be a minor hiccup. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Brissett suffered a mere strained MCL and could play this coming week against the Miami Dolphins.

That’s a bullet dodged. Brissett has been absolutely spectacular since replacing Andrew Luck, who retired during the preseason.

The fourth-year quarterback has put up 14 touchdowns compared to three interceptions in eight starts en route to leading Indianapolis to a 5-3 record.

The Colts could play it safe by resting Brissett before more difficult games against the Jaguars and Texans. But it looks like he’ll be ready to go Week 10.
