Colts’ Frank Gore won’t commit to playing in 2018

Frank Gore

As one of the most durable running backs in modern NFL history, Frank Gore continues to prove himself over and over again at the age of 34.

The future Hall of Famer surpassed LaDainian Tomlinson as the fifth leading rusher in league history earlier this season. He’s now just a couple hundred yards from passing Curtis Martin for No. 4 on the all-time list.

Fresh off a Week 14 performance that saw him put up 130 yards on 36 attempts in a blizzard, Gore still seems to be going strong.

But this doesn’t man that he’s committed to playing beyond the 2017 season.

“I want to finish strong to give myself an opportunity for a team to want me,” Gore said, via the Indy Star. “If there’s a great situation, I’m gonna play.”

Despite Gore’s success this season, his Colts enter Week 15 with a 3-10 record and as one of the worst teams in the NFL. Set to become a free agent following the season, Gore was bandied about as a trade chip late in October.

He’s not going to simply sign with a non-contender as a way to extend his career. That’s what Gore means by “great situation.”

Gore is 59 yards away from tallying 1,000-plus total yards for the 12th consecutive season. That type of production will surely interest contending teams in free agency.
