Following their stunning upset loss to Miami in the quarterfinals of the college football playoffs, a new rumor may have revealed Ohio State’s first big response in the transfer portal.

A few weeks ago, the Buckeyes were seen as heavy favorites to get back to the national championship game and bring the university a second straight natty. Then they were defeated by eventual Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza and Indiana in the Big Ten Championship game.

Yet, they were still looked at as a serious contender to win it all again this month. However, despite facing No. 10 seed Miami in the quarterfinals of the playoffs, Ohio State suffered a surprising 24-14 loss to the Hurricanes.

In the days since, speculation has intensified about what the school could do in the transfer portal to improve the roster after a very disappointing finish to the 2025 season. Well, we might have gotten some clarity on that via a new report from On3’s Pete Nakos.

Chaz Coleman stats: 5 games, 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defended

“Ohio State continues to be the school to keep tabs on in Chaz Coleman’s transfer portal process,” Nakos writes. “Coleman is a Warren, Ohio, native. He has three years of eligibility remaining, and his raw talent makes him one of the top players entering the portal.”

The pass-rushing prospect played in just five games in 2025. Posting eight tackles and a sack as a true freshman. Coleman was aggressively pursued by the Buckeyes last year, but ended up going to play for James Franklin and Penn State.

With Franklin now gone, it makes sense if he chooses to join his No. 2 choice during the recruiting process and get closer to home. Nakos added that Tennessee is another top contender for the former Nittany Lions talent.
