The Michigan Wolverines are working on finding a new head coach for their football program in 2026. Arizona State Sun Devils‘ Kenny Dillingham and Alabama Crimson Tide‘s Kalen DeBoer have been the most rumored; however, Dillingham is staying, and DeBoer is unlikely to leave. Therefore, Michigan football needs a new candidate, and it appears they have labeled one.

Louisville Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm could become the top candidate for Michigan football’s next head coach in the coming days, as reported by 247 Sports’ Sam Webb. Michigan reached out to Brohm’s camp and has been vetting him thoroughly since the start of the hiring process.

The 54-year-old has been the head coach at Louisville since the 2023 season and appears to be a top choice for Michigan. In fact, Brohm and Louisville take on the Toledo Rockets in the Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday, December 23, meaning talks could ramp up following the football game.

Brohm has been very good at rebuilding college football programs. Brohm improved the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to a 12-win team in 2015 and a 10-win team in 2016 before leaving for the Purdue Boilermakers. The former Purdue head coach elevated the team close to 10 wins after six seasons before joining Louisville.

The Cardinals have won at least eight games with Brohm over his three years with the program, and he could be the next Michigan head coach. Brohm may not be a popular name like Dillingham or DeBoer, but he has several qualities that would bring Michigan football back to the top.

Brohm has a track record of reviving programs and developing NFL talent on offense, specifically at quarterback and wide receiver. Michigan would pair the 54-year-old coach with star quarterback Bryce Underwood, giving the team a great chance of improving on offense moving forward.

Michigan football needs an elite offensive mind to pair with Underwood, and Brohm is a fantastic option. Brohm has done well in the transfer portal, and with more resources, he could be even better. With Louisville’s season ending soon, Brohm could quickly be announced as Michigan’s next head coach if everything goes well.
