The Michigan Wolverines have to find a new head coach for their football program. On Wednesday, Michigan fired head coach Sherrone Moore with cause after evidence supported an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” With the college football coaching cycle almost over, the Wolverines are in a tough spot; however, there is optimism about their next head coach.

Michigan is not expected to make a quick decision on the opening; however, they will land a “great coach,” as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on The Pat McAfee Show. Several coaches make sense for Michigan, such as Kalen DeBoer (Alabama), Jedd Fisch (Washington), and Kenny Dillingham (Arizona State).

After Jim Harbaugh left Michigan for the Los Angeles Chargers, they didn’t conduct an exhaustive coaching search, hiring Moore as the replacement. While Biff Poggi was promoted to interim coach for the Citrus Bowl against the Texas Longhorns and could be an option, Michigan will likely take time to find its permanent head coach.

DeBoer, who was linked to the university when Harbaugh left for the NFL, would be the best option. However, it is uncertain if the Alabama Crimson Tide head coach would leave for Michigan. Either way, the Wolverines have time to make a decision, and they should aim high for their next football head coach.
