A pair of new rumors points to Florida State being on the hunt for two of the best QBs available in the college football transfer portal.
After a disastrous 2-10 showing in 2024, there were high expectations for the Seminoles this past season. When they opened their 2025 campaign with a dominant 35-17 victory over Alabama, it seemingly confirmed that they were in the early stages of a big bounce-back season.
However, by week four, the warts started to show as they got terrible play on defense, and Boston College transfer QB Tommy Castellanos was shockingly inconsistent from week to week. In the end, after being in the top 10 early in the season, Florida State ended the year with a disappointing 5-7 record.
A pair of losing seasons has definitely motivated the team to be bold in the transfer portal this month, and it seems they are starting at the top by targeting elite veteran QBs currently on the market.
Florida State Targeting DJ Lagway and Anthony Colandrea
According to On3’s Florida State insider Matt LaSerre, the program has reportedly reached out to Florida Gators QB DJ Lagway to gauge his interest in a visit and leaving Gainesville for Tallahassee.
The 2023 Gatorade High School Player of the Year has a big-time arm and can make all the throws, but as his 14 INTs this past season showed, he still needs improvement on his decision-making and mechanics. Nevertheless, he would be a huge addition for any program that landed him and is viewed as one of the five best players at his position in the transfer portal.
However, Lagway is not the only notable signal caller Florida State is interested in. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that UNLV QB Anthony Colandrea is set to visit Tallahassee this weekend.
The former Virginia recruit took a big leap forward in 2025 during his first season with the Rebels. His 3,459 yards were the 12th best in the nation, and he added 23 passing touchdowns to nine INTs. He is also an underrated runner who tallied 649 yards and 10 more TDs on the ground this past season.
