A new rumor reveals Ohio State is a favorite to land a talented wide receiver who likely will replace Carnell Tate in 2026.

The Buckeyes’ pass game was a formidable unit this past season. Sophomore Julian Sayin far exceeded expectations and was one of the most accurate passers in college football en route to being a Heisman Trophy finalist. Also, Jeremiah Smith had another brilliant season as he posted over 1,200 yards despite dealing with injuries.

However, another reason for being such a dynamic group in 2025 was the further development of WR2, Carnell Tate. The junior had a breakthrough year as he tallied career highs in yards (875), yards per catch (17.2), and touchdowns (9). His big season has likely locked him into being a first-round selection in April’s NFL Draft.

While Ohio State will have Smith back for what is sure to be his final season in Columbus, it will need to replace Tate’s impressive production. And it seems they are closing in on a player who might be able to do that via the transfer portal.

Could DeAndre Moore replace Carnell Tate for Ohio State in 2026?

According to On3, Ohio State or Kentucky is expected to be the transfer landing spot for Texas wide receiver DeAndre Moore.

The junior has been a rock-solid member of the Longhorns WR room for the last two seasons. In 2025, he posted 38 catches for a career high 532 yards on 14.0 yards per catch and four touchdowns. The Anaheim native posted those numbers during a year when sophomore Arch Manning took a while to get into a groove as the starter.

However, receiving passes from Heisman candidate Sayin with a full year as a starter under his belt could lead to some big numbers for Moore in 2026 if he chooses the Buckeyes.
