With the opening of the college football transfer portal just a couple of weeks away, a pair of intriguing options for Ohio State to try and replace star pass rusher Caden Curry has emerged.

OSU has become one of college football’s top NFL factories. This year’s draft offered up some of the best evidence when 14 Buckeyes were selected in the event, with seven going in the first two rounds. That is not going to change this year as the program is on the brink of a second-straight national championship.

Stars like Carnell Tate and Caleb Downs could be taken in Round 1 of April’s event. Another star that could go in one of the early rounds is senior defensive end Caden Curry. The Indiana native has had his best season yet with the program. Leading Ohio State in sacks (11) and is third in tackles (60).

It won’t be easy to replace that level of production, but a couple of options are expected to be available in the transfer portal starting Jan. 2.

Could Ohio State Target Chaz Coleman in Transfer Portal?

On Thursday, high-potential Penn State EDGE rusher Chaz Coleman revealed he plans to enter the transfer portal. He played in just eight games and posted six tackles and a sack as a true freshman this season. The Ohio native was aggressively pursued by the Buckeyes, but ended up going to play for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions.

With Franklin now gone, he will enter the portal, and Ohio State should be seen as an early favorite. As well as Franklin’s new team, Virginia Tech. On3 ranks him as the third-best player in the nation available starting Jan. 2.

However, another intriguing option will be on the pass-rushing market. Earlier this week, Kansas State sophomore Ryan Davis announced that he is the latest Wildcat who will be hitting the transfer portal next month.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the Arizona native heading into the 2025 season. However, injuries limited his production. Nevertheless, he still tallied four sacks and a forced fumble. Before choosing KSU, several West Coast programs, including Oregon State and Washington State, were finalists to land him. So it won’t be easy for the Buckeyes to lure him to Columbus, but it is still worth a try.
