College football notebook: Troy hires Notre Dame offensive coordinator as head coach

College football: Notre Dame OC to coach Troy

It appears Troy didn’t have to wait long to find its next football coach.

Gerad Parker, Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator for the past two seasons, will take over at Troy, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Trojans job is open because Jon Sumrall, who led Troy to a 23-4 record and two Sun Belt Conference championships, left to become the head coach at Tulane.

Parker’s Fighting Irish offense was eighth in the country, scoring 39 points per game and was 30th in total offense at 429 yards per game.

Tulane quarterback opts out of Military Bowl

Michael Pratt, who led Tulane to an 11-2 record and a tie for the American Conference regular season championship, has opted out of the Dec. 27 Military Bowl against Virginia Tech, according to a report from Fox 8 TV in New Orleans.

Pratt threw for 2,206 yards and 22 touchdowns this season and completed 63% of his passes.

Pratt is rated as the ninth-best quarterback and is projected to be a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft and is taking time off to prepare for the Senior Bowl in January.

As a junior, Pratt threw for 3,009 yards and 27 touchdowns and led the Green Wave to a 12-2 record and a 46-45 win against USC in the Cotton Bowl. Tulane finished that season ranked No. 9 in the final poll.
