Cubs Minor League affiliate slams Colin Kaepernick, Nike

The Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, are not afraid to be a little controversial as it relates to Colin Kaepernick and Nike.

In celebrating July 4, the Smokies carved an American flag out in the infield dirt around second base. The social media team also took a pretty direct shot at Kaepernick and Nike’s recent flag controversy.

Interesting.

An fascinating sidenote here is that the Cubs actually drafted Kaepernick in 2009. He didn’t sign and instead returned to Nevada to play football.

Judging by the comments, both pro and con, this will supply plenty of Independency Day fireworks.
