Like most teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks have had a hard time getting Cody Bellinger out this season. On Wednesday, they used a bold strategy against the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger.
Arizona dropped into a defense one might normally see in a slow pitch softball league with four outfielders.
With only three infielders (and none left of second base), the Diamondbacks were obviously willing to give Bellinger first base via a bunt. Though, that did not happen.
Bellinger ended up striking out. So, we didn’t get to see the defense in action in this at-bat.
The Diamondbacks had actually done a decent job keeping Bellinger in check over the first two games of the series. But he did hit a two-run RBI on Tuesday, which might have prompted the decision.
