Cincinnati Reds starter Tanner Roark learned a valuable lesson in Thursday’s game with the Milwaukee Brewers. Don’t hang a slider to Christian Yelich.
With his Brewers trailing 3-0 to the Reds, Yelich stepped in against Roark. Roark’s 2-2 slider caught a little too much of the plate and 462 feet later, it was 3-1.
While Yelich is no stranger to long home runs, 462 feet is the longest he’s hit in the Statcast era.
The 28 homers is already the second best total of Yelich’s career, trailing only the 36 that he hit a season ago.
In addition to being Yelich’s 28th home run of the year, it also extended a 17-game hitting streak. That ties both his career high and the longest in the majors this season.
