Patrick Mahomes continues to make a swift recovery from the dislocated kneecap injury that knocked him out of Thursday night’s game against Denver.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback did not suffer any significant damage to his knee ligaments and avoided any fractures, an MRI showed. On that note, Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder shared that the MRI turned out “as good as we could imagine,” and noted Mahomes is “progressing nicely” in his recovery, per Adam Teicher of ESPN.

ESPN reported on Sunday that Mahomes could even beat the initial three-week recovery time that was reported.

The quarterback himself has also shared on social media that “God was watching over me on that field,” which of course points to the fact this injury could have been significantly worse.

Thankfully for the Chiefs, it appears veteran backup Matt Moore is up to the task of running the offense until Mahomes is ready to return. He was rock solid in place of the reigning MVP on Thursday night against Denver, and his touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill was a thing of beauty.

Assuming Mahomes does return ahead of schedule, it’s likely he’d be looking to start in Week 9 when the Chiefs take on the Minnesota Vikings at Arrowhead Stadium.
