Chicago Fire FC announced the transfer Monday of forward Ignacio Aliseda to Swiss partner club FC Lugano.

The move will become official when the European transfer window opens on Jan. 1. Terms were not disclosed.

“After many discussions with Ignacio, we were all in agreement that this was the right time for a new challenge,” Fire sporting director Georg Heitz said in a news release. “This move allows Ignacio to continue his development in a competitive European league, while providing us with more roster flexibility going into the 2022 MLS season. On behalf of the Fire, I’d like to thank Ignacio for his contributions over the last two seasons. We wish him all the best as he begins this exciting new chapter with our partner Club, FC Lugano.”

Aliseda, 21, had five goals and three assists in 43 appearances (32 starts) in two seasons with the Fire. He had four goals and an assist in 23 games (16 starts) in 2021.

The Argentina native was named the MLS Player of the Week after tallying two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win over Atlanta United FC on July 3.

The Fire announced owner and chairman Joe Mansueto’s purchase of the Swiss Super League club FC Lugano on Aug. 18.
