The Chicago Fire traded the homegrown priority for 15-year-old Leonardo Orejarena to FC Dallas in exchange for $100,000 in 2024 general allocation money.

According to the deal announced Friday, the Fire will receive an additional $300,000 if the Colombian-American midfielder meets certain performance-based metrics.

Chicago also retains an unspecified sell-on percentage if Orejarena is transferred out of MLS or traded within the league.

Orejarena joins North Texas SC, FC Dallas’ MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, on a contract through the 2025 season with a club option for 2026.

“Leo is a highly skilled and dynamic player who is eager to make a significant contribution to our club,” North Texas general manager Matt Denny said. “We are dedicated to recruiting and developing young talented players and Leo’s signing exemplifies this commitment. We are putting an exciting and competitive roster for the upcoming season.”
