Chicago Cubs minor league pitcher Mathew Peters has been suspended for the 2024 season for using an illegal substance called Oral Turinabol.

Peters is a 23-year-old, who signed for a $125,000 bonus in 2022 as a 12th-round draft pick from the Indiana Institute of Technology. He was 0-1 with a 16.68 ERA in 14 relief appearances last year for the Arizona Complex League Cubs.

He is the third player who has been disciplined this year under the minor league program.

What is Oral Turinabol, the drug the Chicago Cubs pitcher was taking?

Turinabol is used as a performance and image enhancing drug, to increase lean body mass (muscle and bone). It the best steroid for speedy recovery because it reduces swelling and muscle fatigue.

It is a kind of drug that was created to be an alternative to testosterone, to have more anabolic and less androgenic effects. Turinbol isn’t supposed to stay in the body as long as other drugs designed to do the same thing and to be effective, it has to be taken daily.

It is an oral steroid that was given to East Germany’s young athletes competing in the 1970s and ’80s, many of whom suffered devastating health consequences later. One of those side effects of Turinabol is that it will suppress natural testosterone levels.
