Chicago Cubs right-hander Pedro Strop is staying away from the team after allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols, according to a report Sunday from MLB.com.
The move comes after Cleveland Indians slugger Franmil Reyes posted images on social media showing Strop and him hanging out in apparent violation of league protocols. The post has since been deleted.
Reyes and teammate Jose Ramirez are being held away from the Indians for the same concerns.
Strop “will have to clear some protocol hurdles before being allowed to rejoin the team in person,” MLB.com reported.

The 35-year-old Strop is 28-30 with a 3.22 ERA and 32 saves in 559 career relief appearances. He was part of the Cubs’ World Series championship team in 2016, and he returned to the team this offseason after spending 2020 with the Cincinnati Reds.
