With his playoff loss on Sunday at the WM Phoenix Open, Charley Hoffman secured a spot in this week’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club.

Hoffman’s runner-up finish to Nick Taylor in Scottsdale, Ariz., earned him a $900,000 check and 300 FedEx Cup points. That moved him into fourth place in the Aon Swing 5 with 315.65 points.

Hoffman, 47, found out he was going to Riviera during his post-round press conference on Sunday. He had been planning a ski trip with his family.

“Did it? That’s awesome. I’m excited about that. I guess I’m playing next week and not going skiing,” he said.

Hoffman said he had asked Tiger Woods for a sponsor’s invite to the Genesis Invitational but was turned down.

“(Tiger) said, ‘They’re all taken,’ so I said, ‘I’ll play my way in,'” Hoffman said. “So I guess I did.”

The 70-player field at Riviera includes 49 of the top 50 on the 2023 FedExCup, Nos. 51-60 on the 2023 FedExCup Fall standings, the top finisher on the 2023 Race to Dubai not otherwise exempt (Nicolai Hojgaard), the Aon Swing 5, tournament winners not otherwise exempt (Nick Dunlap) and four sponsor exemptions.
