The San Diego Chargers announced Wednesday that they will retire three-time All-Pro running back LaDainian Tomlinson’s number during the 2015 season.
According to the team’s Twitter account, the date is set for Nov. 22 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tomlinson tallied a franchise-best 12,490 rushing yards and 145 touchdowns during nine seasons in San Diego. He added 530 receptions for 3,955 yards and 15 scores, also throwing seven touchdowns on halfback passes.
The TCU product earned league MVP honors in 2006 when he rushed for 1,815 yards and a then-record 28 scores. Tomlinson also caught 56 passes, gaining 506 yards and finding the end zone three more times.
Per Ricky Henne of Chargers.com, quarterback Phillip Rivers enjoyed his front-row seat while watching LT thrash opposing defenses. Rivers said:
“For a long time now, I’ve thought of him as a Chargers Hall of Famer and a future NFL Hall of Famer. I always thought of that number having been put away, as it should be. It was really a pleasure playing with him. The way he went about it, the year he broke the touchdown record, it was a heck of a run he had here. It was a heck of a career.”
Tomlinson has served as an analyst on NFL Network since 2012.
