According to Tim Twentyman of the Lions’ official website (h/t NFL.com), the 36-year-old visited Detroit for a try out. This comes on the heals of Bailey’s release by the New Orleans Saints just this past weekend as the team trimmed their roster to 53.
Previous to his brief six-month stint on the Saints, Bailey spent the past 10 years with the Denver Broncos. And prior to that played with Washington for five seasons. All of this mileage doesn’t stop Bailey’s agent Jack Reale from insisting to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that that the 15-year veteran is completely healthy and ready to continue playing.
Reale had these comments to share regarding the condition of Bailey (via NFL.com).
Definitely, and he is fully healthy now. He had a plantar problem, which is resolved, but he just missed too much time for the coach’s evaluation to be complete and unfortunately in the last two games they didn’t throw at him, so he couldn’t show his stuff. He is fine.
Reportedly Bailey’s work out went well with Detroit and they were happy with what they saw, however no signing has taken place at this team.
If he proves healthy and the Lions sign Bailey, he could provide improvement to the cornerback position that the team has lacked talent for years. With that being said, the Lions may only get one good year out of Bailey, so perhaps they should take advantage of him before it’s too late.
