CFB world reacts to K-State’s stunning upset over No. 5 Oklahoma

The No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners came into Bill Snyder Family Stadium feeling confident with an undefeated record and a matchup against the Kansas State Wildcats. They left feeling humiliated as the Wildcats shocked the world in a 48-41 upset.

Oklahoma held momentum early with a 17-7 lead after the first quarter with quarterback Jalen Hurts dominating. The wheels quickly came off in the second quarter with the Wildcats taking a 24-23 lead at halftime.

The Sooners came out flat in the third quarter and Kansas State kept its foot on the gas. The Wildcats scored 17 unanswered points, including quarterback Skylar Thompson’s fourth rushing touchdown, to take a 41-23 lead.

Kansas State’s fans took home-field advantage to the next level with a raucous atmosphere that shook Oklahoma. After the Wildcats increased their lead to 48-23, the brewing upset began to sink in.

The Sooners showed some fight in the fourth quarter with 18 unanswered points. Down seven with under two minutes left, Oklahoma attempted the onside kick and recovered it. Unfortunately for the Sooners, replay showed the football deflected off a Sooners’ leg for an illegal touching and Kansas State got the ball to run out the clock.

As the Wildcats celebrated, the college football world sat back in shock and amusement as Oklahoma stunningly fell Kansas State.
