CEO of Mayweather Promotions: Conor McGregor can beat Floyd Mayweather

Conor McGregor Floyd Mayweather Mayweather-McGregor

Floyd Mayweather is undefeated for a reason. He comes into the Conor McGregor superfight with a 49-0 record as a professional, and it’s widely assumed he’ll make it 50-0 next month when he and McGregor go toe-to-toe in a boxing ring.

Most people don’t think McGregor has a chance at beating Mayweather, and really, many in this camp don’t think it’s going to be close. Count this scribe among them, because I’ve seen the training videos McGregor has posted, and his lack of hand speed compared to his counterpart is staggering.

Whether this is a means to drum up excitement or not, one person who says he doesn’t believe it’s as one-sided as all that is Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe.

Speaking with TMZ Sports, Ellerbe said, “I’ve been saying this all along, all this disrespecting these fighters and saying this guy doesn’t have a chance. That’s some bull****. I’m not buying it, and Floyd Mayweather’s not buying it either. He (Conor) has tremendous punching power and when he touches guys they go down.”

Quite honestly, this absolutely must be the approach Mayweather takes. If he underestimates his opponent, then he’s doomed. That’s true for any fighter.

However, taking an objective look at it all, if we’re being honest the only way we see McGregor winning this one is if there’s a plan in place for a rematch, WWE style. It’s not going to happen.
