Central Michigan has fired coach Keno Davis after nine seasons, the school announced Monday.
Davis, 49, led the Chippewas to a 142-143 record, including a 7-16 mark this past season.
Davis led CMU to two regular season Mid-American Conference titles but no NCAA Tournament appearances and just one NIT berth in 2015. Davis was named MAC coach of the year after the Chippewas went 23-9 in 2014-15.

“I am extremely grateful to Keno for the impact he has made on our student-athletes and the greater CMU community,” CMU athletic director Amy Folan said in a statement. “Decisions like this are always difficult. However, after spending the last few months evaluating all aspects of our program, I believe it is necessary and appropriate to make a change in leadership at this time to achieve the goals we have for men’s basketball.”
Davis’ buyout dropped to $400,000 on April 1 after he signed an extension in 2019. Davis earned more than $300,000 per season.
Overall, Davis is 216-198 in 13 seasons as a head coach at Drake (2007-08), Providence (2008-11) and CMU. Davis took Drake to the NCAA Tournament in his lone season in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2007-08.
CMU said a national search for a new head coach would begin immediately with the assistance of DHR International.
