Celtics rumors: Kyrie Irving isn’t reuniting with LeBron James

Before all heck broke loose around the NBA world this week, a report surfaced that Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving was open to the idea of reuniting with former teammate LeBron James in Los Angeles.

At first glance, the report seemed to be pretty ludicrous. We know full well that there’s no love lost between Irving and James after the former requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to last season.

While the relationship has been repaired to an extent, the idea of Irving playing second fiddle to James didn’t seem to make much sense.

According to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, said notion is a joke.

“The source added that Irving could change his mind before July 1, but added that if he does, it almost certainly would not be to reunite with LeBron James, calling that notion a joke,” the report read.

An impending free agent, Irving stated earlier in the season that he was going to re-sign with the Celtics prior to free agency. Whether that remains the case is not known.

What we do know is that the Lakers are going to be big-time players in free agency. They also need a point guard with Lonzo Ball likely on his way out of town. Based on this report, said point guard will not be Kyrie Irving.
