Cavs’ George Hill out with sprained ankle, no timetable for return

Cleveland Cavaliers guard George Hill suffered an ankle injury in the team’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans Friday night.

It initially looked like a sprained left ankle, which Cleveland confirmed to be the case on Saturday. In announcing said injury, the Cavaliers also noted that there’s no timetable for Hill to return to the court.

“George Hill left last night’s game in the second half with a left ankle injury and did not return to play. Additional evaluation and an MRI today at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health confirmed a left ankle sprain” the Cavaliers announced, via their official website. “He is Out for tomorrow night’s game vs. Dallas and will now undergo a period of treatment and rehabilitation for the injury with his status being updated as appropriate.”

Having missed 32 games to injury last season, Hill is known for taking longer than expected to return from health setbacks throughout his career. Though, the good news here is that it doesn’t seem to be a high-ankle sprain. Those injuries typically take longer to recover from.

The 31-year-old guard was acquired by Cleveland from the Sacramento Kings during February’s trade deadline. In 22 games with the Cavs, Hill is averaging 9.9 points and shooting at a 44 percent clip from the field.
