Cavaliers break NBA Playoff record for 3-pointers in a single series

In just three games, the Cleveland Cavaliers have broken an NBA record for most three-point baskets made in a single playoff series.

The NBA announced this incredible feat on Twitter, accompanied by a video montage of all the team’s made threes.

What’s most remarkable about this record is that it’s the Cavaliers we’re taking about here.

Not the Golden State Warriors.

Not the team that has set all the records the past few years with Splash Brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

Nope.

We’re talking about the no-offensive-flow Cavaliers.

They’ve essentially doubled their regular-season average of 10.7 made threes per game in the current Eastern Conference Semifinals series against the Atlanta Hawks.

As a result, the Cavs are up 3-0 in a series most figured would be hard-fought and potentially could go the full seven games.

Kyrie Irving and J.R. Smith have been unreal, making a combined 25 three-pointers the past three games. LeBron James and Kevin Love have added 18.

The rest of the squad has jumped on board the three-point train as well, as the Cavaliers have evolved offensively into a three-launching squad that could legitimately challenge Golden State’s firepower on its current, torrid pace.

Things are starting to get awfully exciting.

Assuming Cleveland does dispatch a stunned Hawks squad, it’s looking like the Cavs will have plenty of time to rest up for the Eastern Conference Final. Miami and Toronto could go seven games, based on what we’ve seen during the first two.

This could be a good thing or a bad thing.

The chemistry we’re seeing from the Cavaliers is something fans have been waiting to witness since early last season, but sometimes a long break can rusty up the engine.

On the other hand, perhaps this veteran-laden squad could use the rest.

For now, let’s just forget about the what-ifs, sit back and enjoy the glorious spectacle.
