Case Keenum not committed to re-signing with Vikings in 2018

Vikings quarterback Case Keenum

Case Keenum is coming off a career year with the Minnesota Vikings, and it’s clear he’s looking forward to taking advantage of that in free agency this upcoming March.

On Monday, following a very disappointing end in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Keenum made it clear he’s not going to make re-signing with the Vikings a top priority.

This is a smart approach. While it’s true that his performance in the NFC Championship might have somewhat diminished Keenum’s value on the open market, there’s no doubt he’s still going to be one of the better options out there for quarterback-needy teams in free agency. And we know that teams aren’t opposed to spending mad cash on guys who aren’t exactly proven winners (cough, Mike Glennon, cough).

That said, one thing that could potentially happen that would put this outside Keenum’s control is that there’s always the chance Minnesota slaps the franchise tag on him.

It’s going to be fascinating to see what the Vikings do. They have all three quarterbacks — Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford — headed potentially out the door with expiring contracts. Furthermore, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is reportedly headed to New York to coach the Giants. So, there’s a whole lot going on there.
