According to a report on Monday, it appears San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde’s days with the team could be numbered.

Hyde was a second-round pick out of Ohio State during the 2014 NFL Draft. He has dealt with injuries ever since and has yet to play a full 16-game campaign. Hyde started in 13 games in 2016 when he rushed for 988 yards and six touchdowns. He also added 163 receiving yards and three touchdowns to those numbers.

The 49ers selected Joe Williams in the fourth round of this year’s draft. It was speculated in May that that Hyde may have to compete with Williams for the starting job. This was confirmed earlier in July.

Now, a competition might not even be as fierce as we thought if the team does indeed decide to cut Hyde during training camp.

We will hear soon enough if the 49ers proceed with the rumored “surprise cut.”
