As the New York Mets begin to search for their next manager and will reportedly target All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltran as a candidate, Beltran has reportedly already declined another team’s inquiry.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Beltran was recently asked to interview for the San Diego Padres’ managerial vacancy and he declined. According to the report, Beltran will only have interest in jobs if it’s the right situation for him.

Beltran, who played for the Mets from 2005-’11, would bring extensive playing experience, leadership and also stands out for his ability to communicate and relate well to other plays.

The future Hall of Famer interviewed for the New York Yankees’ managerial job in 2017 before the team hired Aaron Boone. Beltran later joined the Yankees as an adviser to general manager Brian Cashman.
