Cardinals acquire RHP Riley O’Brien, INF/OF Jared Young

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired right-hander Riley O’Brien from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations.

Also Monday, the Cardinals claimed infielder/outfielder Jared Young off waivers from the Chicago Cubs.

O’Brien, 28, appeared in one game for Seattle in 2022 and one game for the Cincinnati Reds in 2021. He is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA, three strikeouts, four walks and two homers allowed in 2 1/3 innings.

Young, 28, played in 22 games for the Cubs across the 2022 and 2023 seasons, batting .210 with two homers, eight RBIs, three stolen bases and 20 strikeouts.

Young batted .310 with a .995 OPS, 21 homers and 72 RBIs in 90 games last season at Triple-A Iowa.
