Cam Newton waited for months for the right opportunity to come with an NFL team. Now that he’s signing with the New England Patriots, the former NFL MVP is already emerging as a favorite to win Comeback Player of the Year.

Cam Newton’s Comeback Player of the Year odds skyrocket with Patriots

Bill Belichick made it known throughout the offseason that the team loved Jarrett Stidham. In fact, the team was reportedly so high on him that Newton wasn’t even in their plans. It turns out, that was all a smokescreen.

Newton shocked the NFL world on Sunday night by reportedly agreeing to a one-year contract with the Patriots. He has looked sharp during workouts to prove he is healthy and finally found a home in New England.

The excitement is already building around the NFL. After entering the weekend as a long shot (+1800) to win the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award, he is now nearly the co-favorite per DraftKings Sportsbook.

If Newton is healthy, he should easily win the starting nod over Stidham. Even while battling through shoulder problems in 2018, Newton posted a 94.2 quarterback rating, completed 67.9% of his passes and posted a 24-13 TD-INT ratio.

The Patriots will already take the field this season with one of the NFL’s best defenses and a great coaching staff. If Newton plays up to his ability, this team is back in Super Bowl contention.
